Inventory checklist

Estate inventory checklist for dividing personal property.

A clear inventory makes estate division easier. Use this checklist to organize belongings before family members score preferences and calculate a proposed distribution.

Information to capture for each item

The inventory does not need to be a formal appraisal. It needs to be clear enough that everyone understands what is being divided.

  • Item name or short description.
  • One to three photos when useful.
  • Room or location, such as Kitchen, Bedroom, Garage, or Office.
  • Optional estimated dollar value.
  • Optional note for condition, history, or important context.

Use rooms to keep large estates organized

Room categories make long item lists easier to review and score. Some items can stay uncategorized, but rooms help participants work through the estate in manageable sections.

Review before scoring

When the list is complete enough, the estate owner locks the inventory and participants review the locked list. This reduces confusion before private scoring starts.

Do not mix legal decisions into the item list

Estate Divvy helps organize and divide physical personal property. Families should still follow the will, trust, executor instructions, and legal requirements that apply.
